The country’s leading innovative packaging producer, The Sherwood Group, has provided a solution for Bakkavor Desserts, Melting Chocolate ‘Sprout’. The ‘Sprout’ itself is brought to us by Waitrose on behalf of celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. The green chocolate dome, which when warm salted caramel sauce is poured over, melts away to reveal 18 green, lime flavoured, profiteroles. The final effect of the dessert is that of a pile of sprouts doused in gravy.
Bakkavor challenged The Group to develop a strong and high quality product, blending the best of form and function. However, they still wanted to allow the consumer to capture the whimsical essence of the dessert.
The Group delivered the concept through a clever use of die-cutting and window-patching. This allowed the green dome to sit comfortably inside, while showing off the dessert through the window situated on top, accessible by lifting the hinged tab.
The team at Sherwood have shown a fantastic example of creativity and innovation. The structural design made from Korsnas board was finished with Heston’s name foiled in gold on the matt emulsion front and UV varnish side panels. This combined to create a novel, yet easily accessible enclosure, for a truly unique product.
