The Sherwood Group’s Puracoat™ is an evolutionary product in food barrier packaging, offering food manufacturers an environmentally friendly solution to conventional plastic, PE and other forms of barrier control. As the latest offering from the Sherwood Group, it continues our commitment to innovative food packaging, and has been developed in response to a growing problem of plastic waste.

Applied in line at the Sherwood Group’s premises in Nottingham, there are a range of options that can be tailored to individual customer requirements. Puracoat™ can reach the maximum grease resistant test of “Kit 12”, verified independently by Smithers Pira.

Examples of Puracoat™ application include on the go food packaging, frozen food, bakery, confectionery and other direct food contact packaging.

Is Puracoat™ recyclable and biodegradable?

Yes, Puracoat™ is usually applied to a certified food cartonboard which is organically biodegradable. Puracoat™ is a water based aqueous coating which, when applied to the cartonboard, is also biodegradable, linking to BS EN 13432 regulations.

Can Puracoat™ be used in ovens and freezers?

Yes, Puracoat™ has been tested in ovens up to 220 degrees C for up to 30 mins. It must be used in coordination with a suitable oven board material. Puracoat™ also works in domestic freezer conditions. However, if the packaging is exposed to rapid changes in temperature, excessive moisture may penetrate ink/coatings.

Can Puracoat™ be used in a microwave?

Yes, it can be microwaved from frozen, chilled and ambient status. It is important to ensure that the correct board material and inks are used in coordination.
