Multi-award winning greeting cards manufacturer for the greeting card industry

The Sherwood Group is now broadly recognised as the leading greeting cards manufacturer in the UK, and we also offer the benefits of offshore production through our specialist production arm, Sherwood Global.

About greeting card printing

There are two different types of printing processes used in greeting cards publishing – lithography and digital.

Litho offers traditional four colour printing with by transferring ink from a printing plate to the substrate via blanket.

Digital print is ideal for smaller print runs, market testing and samples and for those publishers who do not generate high volume sales.

We print on different sized sheets of board, meaning that a number of designs are printed at the same time. We use B1 and B2 sheets for litho print, with B1 being the most common, and SRA3 size is used for digital print.

The unit cost of digitally printed cards is higher than the traditional litho print. The most cost effective crossover point from digital to litho printing is when a publisher produces over 1,000 sheets. Folding, die-cutting, embossing, flitter and foiling are some of the finishing processes that can be applied to a job after printing.

The Sherwood Group specialises in greeting card printing, but we also manufacture a wide range of social stationery products, from giftwrap and voucher cards, to calendars, notecards and wallets.

Review For Greeting cards
  • “Since acquiring the license to print Victoria and Albert Museum cards we have worked as a team with The Sherwood Group and they have managed to perfect the colour and detail of the embosses to really do these wonderful treasures and works of art justice. The level of emboss is fantastic, it's really important for the customer to see this amount of detail through the cello wrap. We have had many compliments on the quality of print and finish on these designs. The V&A insist on extremely high standards across all their licensed product, and we feel through their print, Sherwood manage these expectations extremely well.”
